This charity aims to affirm human dignity and restore self-esteem to the women held at Yarl’s Wood Immigration Removal Centre near Bedford. It supports more than 200 women each year with regular visits, offering emotional and practical help. Through a team of trained volunteers, it provides friendship, a listening ear, vital contact with the outside world and help with accessing specialist or legal support.
Allen Lane Foundation’s funding of £9,920 is split equally over two years, and covers core costs of the organisation including office rental and administration. The first instalment of the grant was made in October 2015.
