Omega care for life
Omega, the National Association for End of Life Care (Omega care for life) is based in Shrewsbury and works across a large part of the West Midlands. The charity intensively supports around 400 people each year who suffer from social isolation following bereavement, life-limiting illness or caring in later life.
The majority of those helped by Omega are socially isolated, older people in crisis who do not benefit from family or other support, or their situation is complex. Omega offers one-to-one support, information and advocacy and hosts the Chatterbox Against Loneliness Programme, an enhanced telephone befriending service, and other bereavement and specialist services.
The Foundation offered a £5,000 grant to Omega in February 2019. The funding will contribute towards core costs of the charity. Outcomes over the next year for beneficiaries of the work include increased participation in social activities, increased engagement with families, increased access to information, and improved well-being and self-confidence.
