A full-time staff member runs the day-to-day operations of the Foundation from our offices in the North Yorkshire Moors.
Claire is a leader in corporate responsibility and philanthropy, most recently she was Director, Global Health Programmes at GSK where she was responsible for the strategy and delivery of community-based health projects, including a global partnership with Save the Children and the company’s humanitarian response programmes. Previously she held senior management roles in Diageo and Prudential, as well an advisor on public/private partnerships for the Department for Education.
Fredrica Teale is a Grand-daughter of Allen Lane, and has been a Trustee of the Foundation since 2002. She lives in Dorset with her husband and three sons while working as a voice coach and medieval historian.
Zoë Teale is the eldest Grand-daughter of Allen Lane and has been a trustee since the early 1990s. She studied at Oxford University and the London School of Economics, taught English in the UK and in Asia, and is a published writer. She lives in Oxford.
Clara is the newest family trustee, being a great-granddaughter of Allen Lane. She studied Education and Psychology at the University of Bath and is now working as a Marketing Executive in a law firm. She is interested in teenage mental health, and did research into young women with ADHD. In her spare time she enjoys working with textiles. She lives in Oxford.
Amberley has 30 years’ experience in education, in the UK and abroad and has also worked on several charitable projects. She is currently Volunteer Coordinator for The Bank of Dreams and Nightmares, a creative writing charity in Dorset, which empowers children and young adults through creativity and the power of the spoken and written word. She has been a facilitator from an early age, having grown up with a sibling with severe learning difficulties. She lives in Dorset with her daughter.
Michael has over 30 years experience managing investments for charities and private investors predominantly in the UK. He managed the Foundation’s investments from 2010 until his retirement in March 2021. He has a degree in economics from UCL and lives in Cambridge.
Elaine is a practising barrister and family law arbitrator. She also teaches Ethics (on a voluntary basis) to Bar students at Middle Temple.
She studied Social and Political Science and Law at Cambridge University.
She now lives with her two children in Oxford
Philip Walsh is the CFO at Mind, having previously held similar roles at the Design Museum, the RAF Museum and the Wallace Collection. He qualified as a chartered accountant after studying Natural Sciences at Durham University, and went on to work at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Originally from Lancashire, he now lives with his family in North London.
Gill Aconley is the Director. She joined the Foundation when it moved to York in October 2001. Gill had various roles within organisations in both London and Manchester, latterly for a corporate charitable project at Granada Television. She now lives in the North Yorkshire Moors with her partner and three children.
